Summer is well and truly with us and the events that make Brixham so very special have been drawing in the people and there is so much more still to come.
We have just had the Wonderful Lifeboat Week - and what a week it was. Apart from a great opportunity to meet the lifeboat crews, have a look over the boat and learn about the work of this invaluable team there was an action packed list of events from Classic lifeboats to Parachute Display teams and the Breitling Wing Walkers to Raft Races.
A fantastic way to not only raise funds but raise awareness of the service and safety at sea and around the coast.
The next big event will be the Torbay Steam Fair which takes place on the 5th, 6th & 7th August at Churston - on the main road in to Brixham opposite the Park & Ride Field.
This 3 day show has something for all the family and offers a great day out and exceptional value for money.
This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the Steam Fair which has grown from a one day Static Event held at a field near Berry Head to one of the largest Steam Rally's in the West Country.
On Friday 5th August three of the large Showman's Engines will leave the showground at 4.30pm, each towing a packing truck, to travel to Brixham Quay. Fom there they will ascend the steep hill up to Furzeham Green to re-enact how hard the fairground people had to work to get the rides and equipment around the country for the pleasure and entertainment of the people.
Torbay's Fairs continue at Regatta Times.
This will be a unique photographic opportunity and Torbay Steam Fair will be running a competition for the best photograph taken during the weekend, either at the show or of the Road Run with a first prize of £50. The winning entry will be displayed on the Torbay Steam Fair website on 31st August 2011.
Another unique opportunity is the chance to look behind the scenes at Brixham Fish Market - by kind permission of the Harbour Authority and with the co-operation of the fishermen and Auctioneers.
The first event took place on 27th May and was well supported by both locals and visitors. The next one held on the 1st July was also well supported. The next one, on Friday 29th July is already fully booked. Another chance will come on 12th August and spaces are being taken up quite quickly. The final chance will be on 23rd September so, if you want to know exactly how the fishermen of Brixham work - time and tide wait for no lie-abed. The visits take place at 6.00am at a cost of £7.50 which includes a delicious breakfast at the Fisherman's Mission. To ensure your place telephone Christine Hodgetts on 07788 185174 - but be quick.

Trawler Race Next
Well - the Pirates have fought their BIG battle - but the smaller skirmishes continue every Thursday so you can still be a member of the Brixham Buccaneers band.
The mile of Pirates record was scuppered by a few yards but - there is always next year!
The Heritage Festival once again provided a wonderful week of music, dance, fun and games.
a HUGE thank you to Pat Osborne and her very hard working team for pulling out all the stops to ensure that you got Entertainment with a capital E. Fantastic, wonderful, amazing, superb - I don't think there are enough accolades to give to this annual event.
Make a date in your diaries to come and be a part of it in 2012 if you missed this year.
The 18th June will be the turn of the Annual Trawler Race at Brixham. You may not have a place on board one of the competing trawlers but you can enjoy the spectacle from the shore, on Victoria Breakwater or take a trip on one of the ferries criss crossing the bay for a close up view of the action.
The Fish Market will be open to the public with a selection of stalls for you to savour the unique ambiance linked with Brixham - The Mother Port of Fishing.
To fully understand the process of fishing - from the sea to the table - why not make an early start and join one of the special Fish Market Tours - 1st July, 29th July, 12th August and 23rd September - 6.00am Start - £7.50 to include Breakfast and a donation to the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen - call Christine on 07788 185174 to book your place.
Don't forget you can now find the Brixham Tourism Partnership on Facebook - drop in for a chat, ask for advise, we are all happy and keen to help - especially if it helps you to see how great Brixham is!

2011 and Aweigh we go!
Welcome back to brixham chat.......where have you been til now? With so many events and things going on make a date to keep checking in..........we would hate for you to miss out on any of the extra special events planned for 2011.
The season got off to a flying start with the Annual Pirate Festival - more swashbuckling fun and piratical mania than you could shake your cutlass at!
This years aim was to set another world record attempt..............to create a mile of live pirates.
Did they make it?.................arrrrgh probably m'dears but you will have to keep watching this space for confirmation.
Whats next on the agenda?
The 19th Annual Brixham Heritage Festival which opens with a bang on the 28th May. Fireworks will round off the first and last days (4th June) but in between there is so much going on that you will be hard pressed to keep up with all the action.
Clog Dancers, Samba Dancers, Sword Dancers, Lion Dancers, Majorettes, Sea Shanties, Folk, Blues, Jazz, Big Bands, Trios, Duo's, Solos and goodness knows what else.
The children will be well catered for with Cosmo the Clown, Les the Fez, The Really Wild Show (complete with creepy crawlies), have a Hoot with the Owls, learn to draw with the Strand Art Gallery, take part in the special workshops at the Museum and Scala Hall and, only for the big and brave - take a walk on the dark side looking for ghostly goings on with the original Brixham Ghostwalk.
Not all the events are on the quayside - the Vintage Car Rally will be out by the Breakwater and the fantastic Heritage Sailing Vessels will be racing around the bay - great vantage point on the breakwater or travel aboard one of the passenger ferries that cross the bay to get a closer view.
Our very grateful thanks go to Pat Osborne and her faithful team who work so hard to bring you so much free entertainment..............pssst donations are always thankfully received to ensure that this Festival can not only continue but go to even greater heights.
We look forward to seeing you very soon - plenty of car parking at the Marina Car Park or the Park & Ride at Churston or hop on a No.12 bus or one of the regular ferries that connect Brixham with both Paignton and Torquay..........come on in - the door is always open and the welcome always warm!

High Season has arrived
Hello all, the school holidays have arrived and hopefully plenty of you are coming to Brixham. We're just finishing off torbay Lifeboat week which starred our very own brave boys giving a great demonstration, a wing walking spectacular, parachute drop display and plenty of other activities. Next weekend, 31st July, is Cowtown Carnival which culminates in a fun parade in the early evening. There are plenty of other things to do in Brixham and the surrounds in the holidays. Why not take a ferry trip, visit the Steam Rally in Churston, visit the golden hind, go on the Brixham ghostwalk, brave the fresh sea for a swim, sample the locally caught fish......
See you in Brixham

Brixham World Record Holders again
Hello all, Brixham did it again, the world record for gathering of pirates was recaptured last weekend from Portland. Despite mixed weather and biting winds 1722 hearty souls were counted beating the record by 52. Well done to all. The weekend was full of piratical shenanigans and a good time was had by all. Make sure you participate next year, it's one of the best weekends.
Now into May and the town is warming up and visitors are growing. What's next in Brixham? Lots linked to Torbay Geopark and Berry head including a rockpool ramble, geology walk and a Bat walk. Talking of BAT's, this is a group now running the theatre and scala hall and they are having a launch day on May 22nd, please go along and support. The Brixham ghost walk's have restarted, Sunday's in May, and at the end of the month is the Heritage Festival with the usual smorgasbord of events and activities including the opening parade on the 29th and the spectacular fireworks display also on the 29th in the late evening.

An exciting event is almost upon us - the Annual Brixham Pirate & Shanty Festival is set to raid Brixham from Friday 30th April - Monday 3rd May with plenty of Yo Ho Ho Fun, games, music and dance. A must event for the whole family.
The festival opens with a Pirates of the Caribbean flavour from 6.00pm on Friday - a taste of the Caribbean from Mama's kitchen with the heat turned up for the fire breathing and limbo dancing. Part of the Festival is the "Aargh Factor" contest of Shanty & Folk music - sure to get those feet tapping and hands clapping.

On Sunday the fun continues but the highlight of the day will be the Guinness World Record Attempt for the Largest Gathering of Pirates - Brixham held the record last year with over 1300 pirates - then lost it again................its time to grab it back and bring it home and YOU can help.
To qualify you have to register and dress as a pirate - each pirate must wear an eye patch, a pirate hat/bandana/appropriate trousers/shirt/dress and carry a sword. Go on.........you know you want to! The great countdown starts at 2.15pm then the fun carries on with yet more music and mayhem ending with the famous Brixham Ghost Walk at 7.30pm - join in if you think you're hard enough......it's scary stuff (Meet at the Prince William Statue).
The Pirate Market takes place on Sunday so make sure you have plenty of dubloons to spend on a treasure or two for yourself and the music and family fun goes on.
All motley crew are welcome so come on down for some swashbuckling fun with Cap'n Jack and his sidekicks.
Don't forget that Brixham welcomes Pirates every Thursday throughout the summer - so make a note of Pirate Thursdays if you are looking for some family fun.
